Visual Acuity

Reading on m defensive driving course site, I came across this sentence

“Visual acuity is a measure of the ability to identify black symbols on a white background at a standardized distance as the size of the symbols is varied.”

At first I missed the “visual acuity” part. Since the title of that section was “Vision,” i just took for granted that “vision” was what was being defined. It was such a narrow, ridiculous statement that I went back and re-read. Oh, “visual actuity.”

but i thought for minute about all the different kinds of visions there are, and how the kind we measure and most note, the kind that qualifies us for travel, isn’t really the kind that’s going to get us anywhere…
